How to Create Color Maps

The color map can be used for characteristics like profile, flatness, parallelism, roundness & cylindricity.

  1. Select one characteristic that has already been measured.
  1. Go to the menu CAD - Evaluation.
  1. Click the Display checkbox.
  1. Make some adjustments to the display settings.
    1. A few recommended things to change are:

      • Set magnification (exaggerates form deviation for emphasis)
      • Show points larger
      • Show the color gradient (rainbow scale)
      • Show min/max points
  1. Turn off the CAD surfaces to see all the colored points better.
  1. Also make sure this setting is turned off: CAD - Settings - Strategy - Display strategy when selecting a feature.

The range of the color gradient is determined by the tolerance of each characteristic.

If you select multiple characteristics, they will be displayed simultaneously in the CAD view.

To add a color map snapshot to the report,

  1. Orient the view and get all the settings the way you want. It is usually best to turn off the CAD surfaces.
  1. Click the Manage views button in the CAD Evaluation window. Or go to the menu CAD - Manage Views.
  1. Enter a name for the view, and click CAD presentation.
  1. In the Multiple Report window, add a new line for PlotProtocol. This will include the color map as a separate page in the PiWeb report.

If you only need a single snapshot that will not be in the report, use the Windows snipping tool, or go to the menu CAD - View - Save CAD view to file.
